February 3, 2012

We had a lovely day today. It started off a little unusually, though. Olivia slept for over seven hours last night! She was sleeping so soundly when I woke up (my breasts were sore!) that I didn't want to wake her. So I pumped on one side and waited a little bit. When I thought I might have to pump the other side (or burst!) I decided to wake her. I thought otherwise Murphy's Law would insure that she would wake on her own after I had pumped & stowed the milk in the freezer. I also preferred to wake her up rather than have her wake up distressed because she was so hungry. The way we did it worked out well and we both went peacefully back to sleep for another two hours.

We did some chores around the house once we were up & then got ready to go on some errands and to meet Zendy for lunch. We folded laundry and played in Olivia's nursery. She got to meet her crazy rabbit friend - a gift from Jaime Katusha. He must have really amused her because she spent a long time 'talking' to him in her crib. Once we'd folded everything, we reorganized the drawers to reflect Olivia's changing sizes. All the newborn sizes have been put in a box. It was fun to look at all her pretty things again. I think the only thing I might need to supplement - we got so many wonderful gifts of clothing - is little pants. We have a lot of cute onesies and not as many bottoms to go with them. I think a visit to Once Upon a Child will take care of that!

Our first stop was the mailbox, where we found a package waiting from cousin Kim. Inside were two beautiful gifts, a gorgeous quilt that Kim made & a super sweet snowsuit from Aunt Karyl & Uncle Jim. Once again, we're sad for the loss of 'Mister Man' Uncle Jim, and are thinking of all the family in Arizona especially.
Next we went to the UPS store where we shipped off the defective baby monitor to Summer Infant. They've been very amenable and speedy thus far, so I'm not worried about the situation getting resolved.
Next stop was the gas station. At this point, the light fluffy snow that had been falling turned into gusting, driving snow! It never fails - any time I have a lunch date with Zendy, there is terrible weather! We did not let it deter us. We met Zendy at the PX food court - our usual spot - and had a delightful visit. Olivia really enjoyed seeing Zendy!

After lunch, we went home and had a short but sweet Skype date with Stacy-Lee! It's been too long since I've seen her smiling face. Olivia loved to see her, Aunty Stacy is so silly, but she suddenly realized how hungry she was! So our date ended prematurely. We've got a raincheck though, thank goodness. A few hours later, Daddy was able to get on Skype for a few minutes. It was nice to have a conversation uninterrupted by satellite glitches. Olivia slept through most of the call. But that's okay, she's still entertaining when she's asleep.

This evening Olivia got another bath. She was a little distracted by hunger for this one, so we kept it short. Other than a few brief moments of fussing today, (all hunger-related), Olivia was extremely smiley and happy. I got lots of good smiling pictures! Now she's tucked in bed, dreaming happy baby dreams. I hope she gets lots of sleep and is just as happy for our adventures tomorrow! It's the first day of the Yukon Quest and we're going to see the mushers off and cheer for Jason Weitzel, a local rookie musher who is racing to raise money & awareness for the charity the Wounded Warriors Project. We'll be thinking about our two champion runners, who are snoring across the room right now. It's time for me to take my cue from the three other ladies in the room and, let's not forget our only guy, Bertram the canary, and go to bed.
