February 5 & February 6, 2012

Well, it finally happened. I missed a whole day of the blog. It looks like tonight will be a shortened post, too.

The night before last was one of little sleep for me. Olivia remembered how much she likes to eat and was up about every two hours. She followed that with a day of constant wakefulness. Not all of it was fussy, by any means, she was just very alert all day long.

In the morning we played on the quilt with her otter and her new dinosaur. She likes knocking them over.

We spent some time in the nursery. She stared in wonder at the mobile. She talked to the rabbit. She looked at the plants on the window sill and told me to water them.

She swung in the swing. She sat on the couch and watched Supernatural. She played with the dinosaur some more & gave him baby kisses. She punched the otter in the belly.

And she ate and ate and ate. She did anything she could to not fall asleep. Just when you'd think she was about to drift off...Pop! her eyes would be wide open again.

Finally, at about 1:00 am, Olivia fell asleep. That meant she was awake from 9:00am until 1:00am, sixteen hours!, with only one twenty minute nap while I was in the shower. If she didn't need sleep at that point, I sure did! So there was no blogging for me last night.

This morning we slept in, thank goodness. Olivia slept until about 7am when I fed her and then she went back to sleep until about 11am. I didn't sleep quite as long, but long enough. Thank you Olivia for not turning me into a sleep-deprived lunatic. We did some morning chores around the house and then we waited for Morgan to come help us take a trip to the post office. The on-post post office is notoriously slow, and I could just imagine waiting in line eternally, having to go to the car to feed her & keep returning to the end of the line. So to prevent that scenario, we used the buddy system. Fortunately, the line wasn't too long and Olivia enjoyed the fluorescent lights. We also ran into the Williams ladies - which was a special treat. The 40 minutes in line seemed, well like 40 minutes but with good company.
We came back to the house & tried on the evening dresses that were in the packages from my mother. Alas, I did not really fit into any of the ones I tried on (so far). But Morgan did! Thank goodness we still have a couple months before the redeployment ball. Charmel brought me dinner tonight - a delicious four cheese chicken dish. Very tasty!

Tonight Olivia had some tummy time and rolled herself from her tummy to her back! Way to go Olivia! I caught it on camera, too! It made her cry, but we cheered her on. I think she was not feeling well this evening. I don't know why I think that, but I do. She was fussier about her diapers and she seemed to need a little extra burping. At one point she fell asleep in the strangest way, sitting and embracing my arm. It seemed to 'do the trick' so I left her that way.
I decided to try to move us upstairs tonight. (I was going to try it last night but ended up bringing everything back downstairs since sleep was so elusive - I wasn't going to shift her an iota once she fell asleep!) I noticed the other day that while I was in the shower she dozed off and as soon as I turned the shower off, she woke up. I hypothesized that it must be the white noise of the shower, putting her to sleep. So I did a little experiment. I brought Olivia up and put her in the vibrating chair in the bathroom and turned on the shower. It worked like a charm! She slept well, and I was able to put away two baskets of laundry. Her diaper woke her up, but I'd say overall - a success!

Olivia discovered a fun game tonight while we were changing one of her many diapers, or maybe it was while we were putting her in a cooler sleep sack. Take a peek for yourself, it's pretty cute!

Olivia fussed quite a bit while trying to go to sleep in my room. I almost gave up and went back downstairs when she finally spit up. I think after that she felt better. I was able to rock her until her eyes closed and then put her in the pack 'n play with the Sleep Sheep on the 'rain' setting. It took a few minutes, but she fell asleep. Since then, she's woken up a couple times, but no real fussing. I think we may do alright upstairs! I hope so, because we have an early morning tomorrow! So far it's almost 2am and she's still awake, but with any luck not too much longer! Good night!
