August 12 - 18, 2012

Sunday, August 12th
Olivia is so good with all our dogs (& visiting dog friends) and they are all so good with her, too. I'm so glad that she's not frightened of them. Right now George seems to be her favorite, although Cricket does run around & play. Too bad they will have to go home soon!

This morning Daddy read Mysteries & Marvels of the Animal World by Karen Goaman. I'm not sure who was more enthralled - Olivia or Daddy? Olivia is very lucky to have a Daddy who is so involved and genuinely interested in...well...everything!

Monday, August 13th
Today Olivia's "Everywhere Chair" from Pottery Barn arrived. Actually the slipcover arrived, the inserts arrived earlier but were no good without the cover! She tried the chair out for size & reading comfort - and I think it met with her approval. Getting out of the chair was a little problematic because she wants to crawl out and that first step is a doozy! Time to make some pillows to scatter around for cushioning those falls.

Tuesday, August 14th
Today I got our second 'wall character' (Ruby) laminated. She is covering one of the outlets. I'm not as pleased with her as the Max, but hopefully Olivia will like her.
Olivia discovered her laundry basket today and had fun playing, with, in and around it. I had a frustrating morning with our sewing machine. Part of this could be my mental block against sewing machines (they intimidate me!) but my friend Christina came over and convinced the machine to behave. After that I was able to make some sweet pillows for Olivia's room. I had some Mary Engelbreit fabric squares so I tried to make button arrangements to suit. I let Olivia play with them and the series of faces she was making are so 'adult'. Her expressions are really becoming more and more nuanced. I love it!

Wednesday, August 15th
I love coming in to Olivia's room to find her sitting so cheerfully. What a treat! She really likes this Taggies giraffe from Nana. I find she often plays with it until she falls asleep. Mingo and the puppy blanket are still perennial favorites, as is Lapinette the French rabbit. Those are all the lovies that she has in her crib right now. I don't want it to become too crowded, or so entertaining that she's inclined to play rather than sleep!

Thursday, August 16th
Last night while we were playing on the floor, Olivia started to chew & latch on to any part of me that was within reach - including my chin. I jokingly said, "Olivia stop that or you'll give Mommy a hickey." I didn't notice right away, (that shows how much I look in the mirror lately), but when I stole a glance as we were heading to the car...there it was as big as life - a hickey on my chin! Good grief!
I moved the glider & ottoman out of Olivia's room because I was worried that as she investigated the works she might get her fingers pinched, or that in climbing on the ottoman she would tip it on herself. I replaced it with a blue stability ball. (Maybe I'll work on my core muscles while holding her?) It seems she has just noticed or just become interested in the ball. We had lots of fun playing with it today.

Friday, August 17th
This morning we took Daddy out for breakfast at The Bakery. At one point he and Olivia had a tug-of-war with a plate. I think Olivia won this time!
In the afternoon we watched the Veggie Tales Ultimate Silly Songs. Who can resist The Hairbrush Song? Or  Barbara Manatee? Not us!

Saturday, August 18th

Today I went to a baby shower and Olivia stayed home with Daddy. They did lots of practice walking. They rolled around and played with blocks but the best part was watching Julia Child & Jacques Pepin and having her curl up next to him & doze off. So sweet.
When I got home I got to play on the floor with both of them. We found that if we hang Olivia upside down & make her laugh you can see her top teeth! Looks like she has 4+ teeth now!
