Saturday, September 15th

Today we had originally planned to drive up to the arctic circle, but since the forecast was for overcast conditions we decided to postpone until next weekend (when supposedly it will be sunny). Instead we got ourselves breakfast bagels and did some shopping before repairing to the house to play with Olivia. The most fun was shopping for books at Value Village. We bought fifty children's books for a total of $27.50! During Olivia's nap I checked the retail prices for the books, should we have bought them new (some are collectable), and it could've cost us $362.46!  (A savings of $334.96!) What a great haul. We got some fantastic books, hardly used, by authors like: Dr. Seuss, Tomie DePaola, Marc Brown, Stan & Jan Berenstain, Lio Lionni, Roald Dahl, Lucy Cousins, Katharine Holabird, Mercer Mayer, Rosemary Wells, Ludwig Bemelmans, Bernard Waber, Jan Brett and more!!!

Olivia loved them! It's so important to both Adam & I that books are central to her development. I know that books make me feel safe & calm. Libraries are my refuge. Not only are the orderly & quiet, but when I think of the care, the knowledge, the quantity & quality of human experience that are safeguarded in a library - it takes my breath away. Libraries & books are probably one of the best & most redeeming achievements of mankind. If Olivia has books & a library card, she can be 'at home' anywhere on earth. That's what I (& Adam) want to give her when we give her these books.

Tonight she also discovered her own version of peek-a-boo - she's so sweet! I love her so much!
