Olivia and I got up this morning around 11 o'clock and prepared ourselves for a very busy day! We put on a super cute outfit, meaning Olivia of course, and bundled ourselves into the car to take our first trip to the PX and Commissary and then a doctor's appointment. By the time we got to the PX and parked, etc. we didn't have as much time as I thought we would to do our little bit of shopping. I'm still learning how much lead time, etc. I need to add into our trips. Negotiating car seats, stocking diaper bags and stalking good parking spaces is new territory. So instead of going to both the PX and Commissary we just went quickly through the PX and got a multiplug outlet adapter. I know, I know...we're big spenders.
It was really cold out today so I wanted to get over to the hospital sooner rather than later and try to find a good parking place. Unfortunately, none were to be had...no matter how many times I cruised the closer parking aisles. So we parked a little distance away and hoofed it inside. Once at the ENT clinic I filled out Olivia's paperwork. Under "Occupation" I put - Baby. I think it's also the first time I've ever answered the height question in inches.
We got to see the doctor before our scheduled appointment time and within a matter of minutes he agreed to clip her tongue! I held her on my lap, she cried on schedule (she was hungry) and he used a nifty tool to lift her tongue and *snip snip* it was done! The whole procedure happened in under 10 minutes. They left us alone to nurse and make sure that everything was alright. Jessica Abel joined me - it was still 'before' the appointment was even supposed to have begun! - and there were zero complications. Olivia nursed with no fussing and the doctor said we didn't even need a follow-up appointment (unless I notice she's not eating or signs of infection).
After the appointment Jessica came with us to the food court and I had a late lunch and Olivia gathered smiles from all the passersby - because she's too cute. She spent a lot of the time exploring her 'new' tongue - licking her lips, touching it to the roof of her mouth, etc. I'm so glad that this got taken care of. Even her tongue is cute! Eventually we had to go back out into the cold and head home.
Once home, we talked to Nana, nursed some more and even got to 'chat' briefly with Daddy online and let him know the good news. Then Olivia & I took a little nap in advance of our next outing - tonight's FRG meeting. At the meeting we got to see lots of our favorite ladies and Olivia was very sociable. The most fun was when Sarah A. would ask people, "Isn't Olivia cute?" She even read Olivia a story. She's going to be such a good big sister some day, and for now Olivia is lucky to have her as a "sister from another Jessica," as Sarah puts it.
Nursing has seemed easier since the clip - less painful for me and I think that it must be easier for Olivia because she seemed to finish quicker and has been sleeping for quite a while. Perhaps she's just tuckered out from so much activity today, but perhaps she got more milk than she usually does. (Heavens! Maybe she'll grow even faster! Yipes!) I hate to disturb her when she's sleeping so peacefully, but she really should eat again soon. Then we'll both get ready for bed in earnest.
