January 2, 2012

Olivia had a very active day today. She must be growing, because she ate like milk was goin' out of style! In between the multitude of feeding sessions she:

- examined books. She loves to stare at the bookshelf. Either she's fascinated by Truman, interested in Guinness or concerned about Jared Diamond's Collapse. Whichever it is, I think we have another bibliophile in the family! She will stare at the books for over five minutes at a stretch. Looking at the books has even cured her hiccups! Amazing.

- worked on her muscle tone. She can hold her head up for more than a minute! She is also working on forward & backward movement. At one point she edged out of 'the pond'! I imagine her thinking, "if only my sleep sack wasn't holding me back," but let's save some things for later.

- went shopping! Although she protested (loudly!) getting into the car seat, once she was safely installed in the car she fell right asleep. Our destination? Wal-Mart of course - where all the fashionable babies go to shop. We had a small list of things we were looking for, but mostly it was nice to get out AND it was wonderful that she slept the entire time. I see many trips to Wal-Mart in our future...

- advised me as I assembled her new swing. Since Mimi discovered that Olivia is best calmed by swinging, and since she spent 90 minutes swinging her so that I could nap yesterday, the decision was made (to save poor Mimi's obliques & arms!) to find a baby swing.  As a bonus, the swing makes bird noises which entertained Bertram!

What a busy day for a baby! Now she is asleep in a sea of soft, pink blankets - dreaming lovely baby dreams.
We love you Adam & miss you!
