This morning we took our time waking up and getting ready for Olivia's "two week" doctor's appointment. We washed Olivia's hair in the sink and it looked so golden-red & was curly! So cute! We took great care in gently washing her face, to try and help with her baby acne.
We hardly had to wait at all for our appointment (lucky us) and Olivia was totally relaxed for the whole visit. We learned that she is in the 90th percentile for her height, weight and head circumference. She weighed 8lbs at her last check up - today she weighed 9lbs 5oz! She was 20 inches long at her last check up - today she was 21.5 inches! Her head was 36.6cm at her last check up - today it was 38cm! Wowie! I guess that answered my question of whether or not she was getting enough to eat!
The nurse practitioner that we saw was not concerned by her baby acne, and confirmed that it was normal and would just clear itself up. She also looked at Olivia's birthmark, which hides beneath her hair at the base of her skull. She said it was "beautiful," and so we aren't to worry about that either! (She called it an 'angel kiss' - I like that.) She also agreed immediately that we should get Olivia's tongue tie taken care of. She has put in a referral for the ENT at Bassett Army Community Hospital and also reassured us that if they won't take care of it, she will give us a referral for someone off post. That's wonderful news! And in the meantime, I don't have to worry that she's not getting enough nutrition. In fact, the nurse practitioner kept saying, "You must have good milk!" and that made me very happy. It's not as though I have direct control over the quality of my milk, but I felt a sense of pride anyway.
After our visit we had to get some blood drawn, which did upset our little angel, but she was quickly soothed. Then we went to the pharmacy and picked up her vitamins. Gotta get this little girl some vitamin D!
We came home, ate some lunch and then spent the rest of the day relaxing and snuggling with Mimi. Mimi leaves late tonight, so we wanted as much quality time with her as possible. Now we've dropped her off at the airport and for the first time...Olivia and I are flying solo. I'm so grateful for all the help I've gotten - my father coming early to help me prepare, my angelic & heroic husband for taking such good care of both of us, my mother for making sure that everything (and everyone) was settled and doing well. I can't imagine having done any of it without them.
I have wonderful resources in friends who are here, and friends around the country/world who have volunteered an ear or a shoulder should I need it. We're so blessed. I think we're going to be fine. We've got a good routine. The house is well-stocked with supplies. The new car is a dream to drive. And Olivia makes it all easy by being such a lovely baby. It's going to be a fantastic adventure.
