January 22, 2012

Well, sleeping upstairs was a success! Olivia seemed comfortable in her new, roomier accommodations and I only had to make one adjustment to the room for myself. (I pulled the pack 'n play up next to the bed so it's easier for me to see inside, or reach down to adjust a blanket, etc.) Sophie seemed to enjoy getting back to our old arrangements, too. She was very spunky this morning.

Although it was relatively warm today (around zero) it was also very windy. I was initially confounded by the sound of the wind outside my window; I thought maybe it was the neighbors! I think the wind made it feel colder than usual, so Olivia & I bundled up and spent the day watching movies in bed.

Today she wore an outfit that I bought on Zulily (such a fun place to shop for unique things). With a pair of tights from Nana, she looked so pretty and warm. When she was snuggled up with her pink blanket from Mimi and the puppy blanket from Kim, she looked so cozy! She makes Alaska-for-babies seem like a piece of cake!

Olivia enjoyed sitting in bed with me (with the help of the Boppy) and tried to win a staring contest with her new friend the panda bear - a gift from Uncle ("Panda") Grant. The panda won every time. She did a great job at holding herself upright though...for a while. Not only was there a panda to look at, but there were Venetian blinds that looked interesting silhouetted against the bright window and a fan that stood out against the white peak of the bedroom ceiling. So many new things to explore upstairs!

Morgan came over in the late afternoon and helped us take a quick trip to the PX. A very quick trip, as it turned out, because we forgot that they close early on Sundays. We were able to grab drinks from Starbucks and two pairs of (ruffled, you'd approve Trish!) tights for Olivia. Then we picked up dinner to-go from the Food Factory and made it home just in time for our Sunday shows. Olivia loved sitting with Morgan and spent a long time gazing at her fondly.

Once again, as the day drew to a close, Olivia got fussier. She needed to eat more frequently. And she was definitely having bad dreams. She was twitching and frowning and crying in her sleep. I'd wake her up with kisses and she would cling to my face desperately. Poor baby, tormented by nasty dreams already. And there's no way to comfort her - to say they're "just dreams" - except to hold her and make her feel safe again. We spent a little time rocking in the glider in the nursery, and that seemed to lull her to sleep very quickly. I have the feeling we might end up there a few more times tonight.

  1. Oooooooohhhh! I always liked rumba tights on the girls when they were babies too! They just aren't girly enough until you put ruffles on their bottoms! I bet they look sooooo cute on her?
